Beach Ride by Christchurch Icelandic Horse Treks

The original reservation was for a 9:30 start, but due to rain in the morning, it was changed to a 1:30 start. As a result, we couldn't go to Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, where we had already purchased tickets, but horseback riding took priority. Rain had been falling since the previous day, and the forecast called for rain all morning the next day. After emailing with the owner, Inga, we rescheduled for the afternoon of the next day, with the final decision to be made just before lunchtime. Light rain was falling around the Christchurch City Hotel, but upon learning that one enthusiastic rider would be participating, I decided to join them. I arranged an Uber, rode 16km for 23 minutes, and arrived at the location at 1:00 PM. Since I only needed to fill out a consent form, I had time to kill before the 1:30 PM start. The enthusiastic rider turned out to be a German woman, and another companion was a young Chinese woman. In the end, the horseback riding here exceeded my exp...

Advanced Wild River Course by LightHorse Adventures Horse Treks

Practicing natural horsemanship techniques like leading the horse provided valuable experiences beyond riding itself. Though my horse Larry was calm and easy to ride, I struggled with the one-handed loose rein and never quite got used to the Western riding style. This time, I was particularly flustered by the requirement to stay on the horse's right side at all times, except when dismounting. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the horse trekking through magnificent natural landscapes, especially crossing rivers, which I loved. This time, the Advanced Wild River course had five participants scheduled to meet at 9:00 AM with a 9:30 AM start. The group consisted of a British couple, a German and French couple, and myself—all capable of cantering at a steady pace. Besides our group, there was a beginner group practicing in the arena and an intermediate group on The River Wild course.

Icelandic Horse Riding Tour by Laxnes Horse Farm

The difficulty level was Easy, a beginner course of about 2 hours and 9km involving crossing a few small rivers. However, the total trot distance was just over 16 minutes and 2.3km, making it thoroughly enjoyable even for experienced riders. The ridden horse had a tight mouth, making it difficult to control. Only towards the end, when space opened up between horses, could I achieve a good rhythm in trot. When picked up by car, I thought the driver seemed elderly, but later learned he was the owner of the horse farm, which made me feel quite embarrassed. It's a family-run operation, but apparently a large farm with over 100 horses. Incidentally, I was surprised to see the guide at the rear riding bareback.

Exciting 1.5-Hour Horse Riding Tour of Raudholar by Viking Horses

I have applied because the difficulty level was moderate, but my companions were a family of three who were all first-time horse riders. They seemed to be aiming for sightseeing horse riding and wanted to take photos. This farm will likely arrange a suitable level if you book two or more people. If you are alone, you will likely be going with another group.

Unique 9-Hour Horse Riding Tour on Black Sand Beach by Eldhestar

I didn't stay overnight and only participated in the One Day Tour. The day before, I received an email inquiring about my riding experience, asking me to choose from "Intermediate", "Strong Intermediate", or "Advanced Intermediate". Since "Strong Intermediate" required six hours of riding experience per day, I selected "Intermediate". We loaded my partner horse onto a trailer and drove about 25 kilometers to the Black Sand Beach. After leaving the Black Sand Beach, the route to lunch took us across vast riverbeds and several river crossings. Unfortunately, the rain was quite heavy, making it impossible to take any video or still photos. It was a breathtaking viewpoint accessible only by Icelandic horse, and even now, thinking back, I can't help but feel deeply disappointed.

Icelandic Horseback Riding Tour by Ishestar Horse Riding Centre

When we arrived at the horse riding facility, we watched an instructional video " Ishestar - How to ride an icelandic horse? ". Afterwards, each person was assigned a horse. The icelandic horse here are particularly friendly and very calm. We started in a group of about 20 people, and halfway through we split into a slow group and a faster group, with the faster group mixing in a lot of trotting. This beginner course on our first day in Iceland was just the right warm-up. I think experienced riders will enjoy it too.

Tourist Ger Stay-based Horse Tour at Nalaikh Steppe by Tsogto Mongol

The intermediate course to the Nalaikha Steppe had a canter section of over 10km(30minutes) in total, which was far more than I could ride. I was amazed at the toughness of Mongolian horses and nomadic people. When ridden alone, it neighs, and though its gallop isn't particularly fast, a gallop lasting over three minutes will leave the rider breathless. Since the two-point forward position is inadequate, mastering the standing position is essential.
